Week 16: What's Going on With the Pregnancy?
After finding out that they have conceived, many women find that they are flooded with questions. They want to know what they can do to stay healthy during this time. They want to know what things they should add to or avoid in their diets. They also want to know exactly what is going on in there as a the baby continues to grow. For pregnancy doctors nyc residents need to make an appointment around this time. Aside from a check up, physicians are often ready to set up a 16 week ultrasound. But what's so important about week sixteen?
Pregnant women begin to notice real changes around this time. Many start to feel a slight flutter in their tummy that is the first signs of movements. Others may be patiently awaiting the moment. Moms can expect that their bodies are increasing the amount of amniotic fluid they are carrying around. Hormones continue to make changes in the body too, including an increase in oil production and blood volume levels. What does this mean? This means that the pregnancy glow could be happening. A slightly oily, red face is often considered to be a "glow" that accompanies this part of the pregnancy.
The baby is making real strides during this week. Bones are beginning to form, however many are still slightly flexible in order to make birth easier for the baby. At the same time, while each pregnancy is different, there is a good chance that the baby is about the size of an avocado. For those still experiencing morning sickness or all day sickness, it can be shocking to realize that something so small can make such a big impact on the body. A growth spurt is right around the corner.
At this time, an ultrasound can actually tell you a lot about the baby. Outside of his or her overall health and heartbeat, it is possible to see actual facial features. This can be exciting as it gives parents more of an actual picture of their baby; not just a mass of cells that is indistinguishable from the rest of the body. For some parents, this is also the point when the baby's gender will be revealed. This is often a huge turning point in the pregnancy.
